Bridging Innovation and Challenges in eBPF

a comprehensive survey of eBPF applications — fall 2024

Student Researcher, Princeton University (Fall 2024)

A research project I defined and pursued independently on the architectural and verification limitations of eBPF, written as a final paper for a graduate-level systems seminar.

  • Surveyed eBPF’s architecture, verifier design, and 40+ real-world applications (from companies such as Meta, Netflix, and Google).
  • Identified trends, limitations, and open challenges in verifier correctness, ML integration, and tooling portability.

If you’re new to eBPF, I also wrote a gentler introduction on my blog: eBPF Basics.
